MARINTEK is a versatile research company specialising in
R&D in central areas of marine activities. Its objectives are
to strengthen the competitiveness of its clients, stimulate industrial
development and commercial activities in general, and promote
industrial safety. The company is to generate comprehensive approaches
and new national and international initiatives.
The company is a part of the SINTEF Group. Its operations are
co-ordinated with similar activities within the Group. MARINTEK
collaborates with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology
(NTNU) and supports education and basic research in areas related to
the activities of the company. MARINTEK operates in accordance with
sound financial principles to secure its future existence and maintains
high professional and scientific standards. The company pays no
dividends on invested capital. The resources, which are created, are
only to be used to further the company's objectives.
MARINTEK has 176 employees, which above 60% of them have Master or Ph.D
degrees. MARINTEK facilities in the field of hydrodynamics include a
large ocean basin, towing tanks, marine cybernetic laboratory and a
cavitation tunnel. MARINTEK has its own model manufacturing facilities.
MARINTEK has expertise both in experimental as well as theoretical
fields. This includes development of numerical codes for design and
analysis of propellers. MARINTEK has been involved in around 20 4thFWP
European projects and 8 5thFWP European projects and is currently
involved in some 6thFWP European projects.
MARINTEK had in 2002 a gross turnover of MNOK 186.2 and net operating
income of MNOK 146.3.
Key Person : Dr. Kourosh Koushan
Dr. Kourosh Koushan gained his bachelor at the Marine Engineering and
Research Institute, India in 1988. He then went on to complete a
postgraduate Diplom-Ingenieur (1992) and his doctorate (1997) in Ship
Hydrodynamics, at Technische Universität Berlin. During the
course of his studies in Berlin, he worked at the university as
Assistant Lecturer. He took on a position of Research Engineer at
Norwegian Marine Technology Research Institute (MARINTEK) in 1997. In
year 2000, he took on a position of Senior Research Engineer at
MARINTEK. He has been project manager of several EU (FP4 & FP5)
and national research projects and has published several scientific
papers in field of ship propulsion and modelling.
